Now, now, Albion, do I detect a note of frustration here because he's removing planks from Cameron's platform and leaving him policy naked.

Any encumbent government in the present situation would do the same, and forcing the duplicitous bankers to pass on the reduced bank rate to house owners won't do him any harm either.

He is playing his political hand while he can, which doesn't leave David much room to manoeuvre what do you expect.

You'll probably say it will all end in tears but you must give him full marks for trying only four months ago labour was looking into the abyss but things have improved.

More sadness than frustration Exp , the usual story .. party before country.

A win win policy from his /Nu Labours point of view , run up vast public debt to maintain current spending and throw money at the public hoping it will bring him some short term popularity with the electorate. If it doesn't work who cares , the Tories will get in and inherit a failing economy with public spending spiralling out of control .. Old or Nu Labour .. same old story

Look forward to them/you complaining /crying crocodile tears when it is left to the next government to cut back on public services and raise taxes to rescue the public finances !

Still 13% behind the Tories according to yesterdays poll .... still looks like an abyss to me

As I've already stated Albion it's likely the Tories with the lead they have will win but six months ago we were talking about a Labour massacre.

If we are going to lose, don't lose big, which it looked a few months ago we were going to do and if it's a small Tory majority or hung parliament they won't have the carte blanche mandate of a landslide.

So he wants to cut taxes, yet increase government borrowing.

We already have the largest budget deficit in the developed world!

Let's pray to dear god that someone buys him a calculator for Christmas.

If it wasn't for the current recession it would be hard to believe that Brown was Chancellor of the Exchequer for 10 years.

It's just another desperate bid by Labour to win more votes.
They know a huge chunk of the population just votes with their wallets. Even though we'll be paying back these tax cuts, and government deficits for generations to come, Labour are only bothered about the short term, or specifically winning a 4th term...
