Paul Ray's interview on Talk Sport neatly sums up a divsion of opinion that is visible right across this board. Broadly posters fall into two camps:
1) Those who wholeheartedly support the policy of the EDL to oppose Islamic extremism and Sharia law in the UK.
2) Those with a more broadly based dislike/suspicion of Muslims generally and oppose Islam full stop.
They are quite different points of view which require radically different solutions and ultimately cannot co-exist inside the same movement because each undermines the other.
If Paul Ray is no longer associated with the EDL, would it be a terrible thing to suggest that those who share his views abandon the EDL and form a splinter group that better represents what they wish to achieve in the long term?
Frankly I couldn't give a monkeys what happened to any potential splinter group but the benefits for the EDL would be numerous:
1) We could publically state that the overtly racist members of the EDL (and they are here) have been moved on, leaving a core of activists who are committed to the EDL's goals and peaceful methods. It would also help to create greater unity between those who remain.
2) We could begin to open up dialogue with groups who are currently (and with some justification) very scared of the EDL.
3) We have a better chance of winning over the demographic we need to in order to succeed by very publically illustrating that the EDL will not tolerate bigots and racists in it's ranks.
It's just a thought but I'd be interested to hear peoples views.Impose Sharia Law march in London this saturday - Stormfront
Then PM on the EDl forum -[I] Good post mate and I agree with you 100% about the paramilitary/crusades image being totally the wrong way to go about things.
Unfortunately, until the EDL cuts all association with the likes of nutters like Paul Ray the mud is going to keep landing and stickingThe demonstrations by EDL where there were no UAF, saw attacks on a Muslim individuals and businesses etc. of the type commonly associated with fascist pogroms. I personally believe if the EDL do expel the fascist's, the UAF should stop demonstrating their demonstrations, as there would be no need.nazi versus nazi: EDL get into a fight with Combat 18 and Blood ...

The fascists are always whining about being discriminated against. It's quite simple, if the fascists dont want to be descriminated against, they should stop discriminating against others.
Yeah whilst I am not the biggest fan of even some moderate EDL ideas, this is certainly a positive step.
So unproductive has conservatism been in producing a general conception of how a social order is maintained that its modern votaries, in trying to construct a theoretical foundation, invariably find themselves appealing almost exclusively to authors who regarded themselves as liberal. - F.A. Hayek
