I understand fascism to be a counter democratic, extreme nationalist movement which comes to power on the basis of mass support and proceeds to abolish civil liberties and capitalist democracy, a process which begins before the fascists assume power. The BNP is such a party. The BNP and it's focus on race brings it closer to the Nazi version of fascism.

The BNP are a fascist party because their constitution – rule 2(b) - commits the main aim of the party as “stemming and reversing the tide of non-white immigration and to restoring, by legal changes, negotiation and consent, the overwhelmingly white makeup of the British population that existed prior to 1948”. This is a programmatic aim that could not be achieved without violence, and would require the BNP to physical smash up the resistance of the trade unions, left and centre political parties and the institutions of liberal democracy.

Important to point out too that those who imagine that fascism must remain the same under all social conditions are fooling themselves and end up in the process of deceiving people.

Very much in your opinion. You have not clearly listed/concocted a criteria for fascism nor demonstrated point by point how the BNP are supposed to qualify for it.

I see only one vaguely coherent assertion from you above and even that is woeful. Defending the historic ethnic/racial makeup within one's own nation state is nationalism not fascism.

Are the BNP are 'fascist' party?

Well, let us first examine the difference between Fascism and that of National Socialism, which some might argue is it's 'cousin'.

During WW2, Germany, under Hitler, were National Socialist, and Italy, an ally, were Fascist.

While there were much common ground between the two ideals, there were also some differences, the primary one being that Mussolini's Fascists did not have a real racial or ethnic issue, while the German NS's, they did, of course.

Both idealogies demand absolute obedience and respect for the state, something which any free or critical think would obviously oppose.

I think, for what it is worth, that the BNP know they will never be elected into power, here in the UK. Unlike Spain or Italy, for some reason, our people, for all their faults, they never seem to have been tuned in to the idea of Fascism.

Knowing this, the leaders of the BNP can feed into the primal fears of the working class, esp in downtrodden areas, like in the NW of England.

Many of their recruitment tactics are not new, but they are effective on those who feel marginalised, ostracised, and frustrated - that is who the BNP rely on, to swell their number.

Big things were expected from the BNP at the last elections, but to their surprise, they actually did very poorly, perhaps, once again, underscoring the point that when it comes down to it, the public here just don't really fancy their 'agenda'.

It is easy for the BNP to make any promise or statement they like, since they will never win an election, or form a Government, they will never be put to the test, to see if they stick to those election promises, such as they are.

Of course, the BNP also spout a great deal of propoganda, and good(sic) propoganda is a fine mix of overstated or misrepresented information, with a sprinkle of truth, which is why people often believe good propoganda.

Some threads aren't even really worth replying to where the BNP are concerned.

YES, they have a following of people who are genuinely fed up with such a terrible immigration policy and feel like strangers in their own land because of Government decisions,BUT DON'T dislike other human beings on the basis of skin colour,sexuality or belief. These people feel isolated by the "main" parties and on the face of it,the newly acceptable BNP (Griffin now admits 6 million Jews were slaughtered,after a re-think that even he can't explain) provide an option.A last chance saloon if you like.

The trouble is though,they do have a following of a nastier racial hatred driven individuals,many of whom,see violence as an answer.

I attended NF meetings and KNOW members of the BNP who still like a spot of "paki-bashing" on a Friday or Saturday night after a few beers.

You need to be either desperate or quite frankly not the brightest bulb in the illuminations,to follow such a leader and such a party.So I guess the above behaviour can be forgiven.They don't know any better.

We NEED a STOP to immigration from the EU and beyond with IMMEDIATE effect.WE NEED a renegotiation of the Lisbon Treaty IMMEDIATELY.With the exception of skilled workers we need or people in GENUINE fear of their lives where we are the nearest safe haven.

We NEED people who want to integrate into our society to make an effort to actually intigrate and not just live beside us.

We need a stronger response to anti-western feeling at demonstrations.If you hate the west that much don't live here!

We NEED all these things,but what we don't need are a party with white supremacy undertones led by a former holocaust denier.

To say that the BNP doesn't have far right supporters is frankly ludicrous.

I want a fairer Britain.I believe that we can't cope with such an influx of immigrants without social tensions rising.I DON'T see the BNP as the answer though and I hope that "normal" members think long and hard about their needs,what the party stands for and educate themselves by looking below the surface.

I am guessing that you are either a member or supporter of the British National Party, am I right? Doesn't take a genius to figure it out .

I have said that I do not technically regard the BNP as a 'fascist' per se, since the true origins of Fascism lay in Italy, and even if Mussolini and Hitler were allies, during WW2, the difference between Italian Fascism and German National Socialism, was that the latter had built into it a racial pride/superiority. I have found that same mindset to exist within many BNP members that I have met, through my life, therefore, if I were to use a term to describe the BNP, it would be more in keeping with NS rather than Fascism, if that makes sense?

I know of C-18, I would describe them as small in number, an interest to the security services, and a mix of the utterly deluded and fantasists.

It is true that those attached to C-18 do loathe the BNP, despite the fact that they do share some of the same core beliefs.

This, to me, serves only to underline the fact that the National Socialist mindset would, in the end, happily turn on one another, even if their personal 'utopia' of an 'indigenous Britain' were to be realised, by mass deportation, etc.

I am not so sure though that you can claim there are no links between the BNP and the NF.

The BNP was formed by disgruntled members of the NF, so to suggest that there is no connection is either ignorance or a lie.

The BNP meats many of the criteria of a fascist movement.

If you love your country more than life itself, defend her when she is being insulted and slandered, rather than sucking up to those doing the insulting and slandering.
