I've just finished this excellent novella by Graham Greene about the French war in Indochina, centred around a quiet-natured, malicious-intending, young American and [the narrator] his middle aged, middle-class English journalist friend.
For sceptics of American intervention and general critics of America's international relations with the Far East I highly recommend.
The book was criticised for being 'Anti-American' and I believe some American 'bookstores' refused to sell it. Graham Greene as a middle-class English Catholic I'm hardly suprised his work is not highly favourable with the Americans.![]()
So has anybody read it?
"People should not be afraid of their Governments, Governments should be afraid of their people" - V (V for Vendetta)
I must agree with you that the book is a fine effort, as is the much maligned film with Michael Caine, i saw the film first and thoroughly enjoyed it, prompting me to read the book.
I have read much on the war in Indo-China, you might want to try "unheralded Victory" a review of the American involvement in Vietnam by an Australian, who reviews many sources with an untainted view and comes to interesting conclusions on the war.
