    What's your favorite painting?

    While I like paintings, I'm not really exposed to them. Australia isn't exactly the center of the art world, and I feel the internet is not the correct medium to view actual paintings.

    Having said that, my favorites are Brughel's Icarus, which I have only recently seen as part of my study of Auden's poetry;

    And Gustav Dore's ilustration for Paradise Lost;

    I really like that top one
    I take quite an interest in art, mainly in the modern art movements though.

    Kandinky is immense:

    I'm quite in to political art also. Saw some great examples recently at the exhibition of Chinese art that was at the Saatchi gallery.

    It's not so much the message which they portray, I just find that some of the feelings which they can evoke can be pretty amazing. Russian Constructivist art (which tended to be pro-lenin) is quite interesting also:

    This is so much better than the crap which Stalin's propaganda machines pumped out (socialist realism) which was soo dull.

    So unproductive has conservatism been in producing a general conception of how a social order is maintained that its modern votaries, in trying to construct a theoretical foundation, invariably find themselves appealing almost exclusively to authors who regarded themselves as liberal. - F.A. No one specific artist or painting, but like Jacques I think Kandinsky is great, as are Miro, Klee and Mondrian.
