When residents were asked to provide feedback on council plans to build traveller camps on their doorstep they dutifully responded.
More than 3,000 homeowners filled in forms outlining their views, many raising concerns over a possible increase in noise, traffic, rubbish and a detrimental effect on property prices.
However, such objections were not appreciated by Mid-Bedfordshire District Council, which partially or fully rejected nearly nine in ten of the replies for including comments 'of a racist nature'.
Weeks after asking for residents' views earlier this year, the council posted an article on its website entitled 'Racist Comments Not Welcome'.

Its just the matter of people's constant hatred of anything on their own doorstep, these camps would save lots of other complaints from other towns and save their councils money. Councils should put their foot down like this more often, and i wouldnt call it racist, i would call the people misinformed and possibly ignorant. Look at the eco towns which have been gradually worn down from near 11 to just 2, if a government makes plans it should go through with them, these people worried about their village life, are really quite inconsequential in the face of progress and innovation.

I disagree, there was once a travellers camp near me and all it caused was fear and a huge rise in crime!

In practically all cases the local government isn't the problem, the problems come with economic imperialism from the west. When you control a famine stricken countries supply of aid, aid which is not unconditional, when your only doing so to improve your own circumstances, then you are the problem. Here's an example, ill give you 2x10[6] pounds in aid, but, you have to spend at least 1M of that aid on tractors from my country's businesses, you get lets of tractors that your farmers need and my businesses get a huge backlog of orders, everybody wins right? wrong, the industries in your country which previously produced tractors and their parts, the industry used for gathering the raw materials etc. will the go out of business leaving you with 1M pounds worth of tractors and an unemployment problem.

These people cant help themselves until we realise that they exist.

I recently read in one of the dumb newpapers about a man who sneaked into a filthy gypsy/travellers camp and firebombed the doughnuts!!! they left the camp overnight........................was the best read I have had in ages
