    Angry Victim kicked, punched and head-butted

    A 61-year-old was undergoing surgery last night after being kicked, punched and head-butted by two thugs who mugged him for just £5.

    David Wells was attacked in the street AFTER he had handed money over to the two men.

    Now sickened police officers are calling for witnesses to the “vicious” and sustained” attack to come forward.

    It left Mr Wells with deep cuts to his forehead and lip, a swollen black eye and swelling to his hand.

    He was approached by two men in Trinity Road near the city centre on Tuesday at 11.30pm when he was walking home from town.

    They demanded money and when he was only able to give them just £5 they assaulted him.

    Mr Wells was left lying in the road and a passer-by called an ambulance for him.

    He was treated for his injuries yesterday at Bradford Royal Infirmary, where he was said to be recovering from his ordeal after undergoing surgery last night.

    They took 2 men into custody, have took a statement from the elderly
    victim and are looking for witnesses yet NO DESCRIPTION given!!!!

    hhhmmmmmmm I wonder what they looked like
    of course telling us this might indicate a racial motive as the money had been handed over but of course the enrichers in Bradford arent racist

    What worries me is 'they are looking for witnesses' sometimes the police use this phrase to say well we are not sure we believe the victim lets see if anyone else saw what happened.

    It is a bit odd that there is no description given of the two men. If this is because of racial concerns by the police then its a problem as it seems to have the opposite effect. Of course as they already have both men in custody, and the full story (which you don't include here) does state both the time AND place of the attack, it seems like a desciption is unnecessary.

    That is, unless there were other muggings going on at the same time. I don't know, maybe its a rough area...

    I think police tend to be 'looking for witnesses' in all cases. Its kind of a thing they do. This crime seems to have little racial subtext, apart from the fact that its in Bradford and the obvious interest you have taken in it.

    Update...

    Two men have appeared in court accused of robbing 61-year-old David Wells in Trinity Road, near Bradford city centre.

    Gareth Law, 21, of Otley Road, Bradford, and Samuel Cairns Spencer, 23, of Kelsall House, Barkerend, Bradford, have been charged with robbery and causing grievous bodily harm.
    They were committed to Bradford Crown Court by city magistrates today. Both were remanded in custody until the next hearing.
    Mr Wells suffered deep cuts to his forehead and lip, a swollen black eye and swelling to his hand when he was robbed at 11.30pm on Tuesday on his way home.

    Are they foreign??

    I'm sure Trevor will be back apologising unremittedly for his error.

    Although, I think its still possible from those names that both suspects were black. In which case, the purpose of the thread is stil valid.
