A Street brawl in a town centre car park led to a man being treated in hospital.

The father of an eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said his 13-year-old son heard the youths say they were part of the notorious Ravey Terror Squad.

But police have denied the infamous gang was involved.

The man told the Reporter his son and a friend had narrowly missed being attacked by the group, who were wearing balaclavas.

He said: "Something had happened down at Lidl. It seems as if it was pre-arranged – they were all tooled up with baseball bats and things like that. They came with weapons.

"My son and his friend got embroiled in the middle of it. They ended up walking through the group of Asian lads who nearly had a go at them, but they thought better of it because they were so young."

After the incident, which took place in Lidl car park, Station Road, Mirfield, last Thursday night, one man was taken to Dewsbury and District Hospital with facial injuries.

A 17-year-old and four men in their early 20s were arrested and bailed.

Police said they were called to Lidl car park where they were told a fight had broken out after three cars had been damaged.

Sgt Steve Forrest, of Dewsbury Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated, and we are taking resident' concerns very seriously.

Name calling, Insulting and Swearing is anti-social. Geared up with weapons, and attacking hardly constitute anti-social and are assault with intent at the very least! Why oh' why do the police always water down incidents when it's by non-white perpetrators? Don't bother answering that!

"Throughout the weekend local police officers dispersed a number of groups of young people in Mirfield, resulting in a noticeable reduction in the groups of youths in the town and associated antisocial behaviour. We will continue taking positive action and continue our patrols to offer further reassurance to the community and prevent any recurrence of antisocial behaviour."
