| Hot news just in – the jury in the second Wroughton hammer attack trial before Bristol Crown Court was sent out earlier this afternoon to consider its verdict in respect of the nine men and youths charged with conspiracy to commit actual bodily harm on Henry Webster, the 15-year old schoolboy, viciously assaulted with a hammer and left with brain damage last year. Regular visitors to this site will remember that seven men and youths stood trial earlier this year and all seven – including the son of the local imam - were found guilty of grievous bodily harm. Sentencing was deferred until after the completion of the second trial. Judge Carol Hagen finished her summing up at Bristol Crown Court this morning and the jury was sent out at 2.15pm. Summarising the case so far Judge Hagen told the jury to try to forget that seven people have been convicted of the brutal hammer attack on Henry. “It is essential you maintain a distinction between this indictment and these defendants and the earlier trial.” Roubel Meah, 20, of County Road, Mahbul Ali, 18, of Broad Street, Javad Khan, 20, of Manchester Road, Mizonur Rahman, 19, of Broad Street, Bilal Yakub, 18, of Nursery View, Faringdon, Aqduss Rauf, 18, of Hereford Lawn, Kumran Khan, 19, of Drove Road and a 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, all deny conspiracy to commit actual bodily harm. The latest report may be found here. With the honourable exception of the usually BNP-unfriendly Swindon Advertiser both trials have been largely, if not entirely, boycotted by the national and regional media. We can’t imagine why! Racism cuts both ways site.
