Stuff to do if you've just registered:

• Go to your profile, and enter your details.
• Post a hello in the “introduce yourself” forum.
• Become acquainted with the search facility – it is always preferable not to have two discussions on the same topic running concurrently.
• A new member’s first posts will automatically be placed into moderation to be approved or disapproved according to the rules.

This is a friendly environment; we wish to keep it that way so please treat others as you would like to be treated. Rude, insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts will not be tolerated (“The Other Place” is a forum created specifically for such behaviour and it must be confined to there). Our decision is final in these matters and a list of penalties for breaking the rules may be found here.

• Do not post any messages, links or images that are libellous, obscene, vulgar, sexual in content, threatening, racist, discriminatory, or otherwise violate any local or international laws. This includes in your signature, profile, blog and avatars. The moderators will ultimately decide if something is appropriate or not. We reserve the right to remove offensive posts without notice.
• Please ensure when posting copyrighted material that the source is clearly provided and placed in quotation marks, and if featured on-line, a link back to the article is referenced in your post. Also, do not post copies of postings/threads from other forums unless you have explicit permission to do so. All copy/paste material must be linked to a source - to determine both copyright and accuracy/bias of source. Do not share, trade, or distribute in any manner here, any copyright material without the express written consent of the owner.
• Evading the auto censor by using punctuation marks or purposefully misspelling words is considered an offence.
• Advertising, spamming and trolling is not allowed. This includes using the forum, visitor messages, blog comments, picture comments and private message systems to spam other members; anyone found spamming will automatically receive a life time ban.
• Do not dig up old threads unless it is a Sticky thread or you have something profound to add to the discussion. The key thing is that you should be contributing in an important fashion to the thread or re-triggering discussion for an important reason. If your post does not fit either of those categories then avoid posting in a thread. As a rule of thumb, if the thread is older than a month it shouldn't be posted on.
• Each member is allowed one login account. Registering with multiple accounts is not allowed.
• If you are going to post non-English on these forums, please also post an English Translation of your post.
• Posts discussing moderator actions are not allowed, please contact a moderator by private message should you have an issue.
• Please make titles of opening posts as descriptive as possible, this will ultimately mean that more people will read it.
• Do not duplicate threads in different forums. Duplicate posts will be deleted or merged.
• The moderating team reserve the right to edit, remove or put on moderation queue any post at any time.
• Although the above rules are for public posts, it is not permitted to send a PM that may cause significant offence to the recipient. It is the responsibility of the sender to gauge what "significant offence" may be, but it normally includes personal attacks combined with use of poor language. The recipient of such a PM would have to forward it to a moderator to have any action taken.
• We reserve the right to change the rules at any time without notice as the needs of the community develop.

Moderation guidelines.

• We try to keep moderation the exception and not the rule, the removal of spam excepted.
• Poor spelling and badly worded posts will not be edited (though you'll look much better if you put a little effort in). Incorrect spelling in thread titles may be edited, just to help people who search with words spelt correctly. Please try to keep text speak to a minimum within posts.
• Where possible any edits will be shown, in line and in context.
• Personal insults, unnecessary language, clearly libellous claims, (in other words, the very exceptional clearly unacceptable posting) will be moderated – but we will where possible contact you to ask you to revise the post yourself.
• Moderators will post on the forum in their capacity as members and of course are subject to the rules.
• Please remember that moderators are volunteers that are here to ensure the forum runs smoothly. Please respect this if they have to contact you/edit/remove or add additional comments to your posts.
• Abuse towards moderators will not be tolerated and may result in you being banned.
• Do not question or ignore Moderator instructions on the open Forum. Any queries about Moderators decisions must be conducted by Private Message to the Moderator involved. If any issue you have is not resolved to your satisfaction you can contact Admin. The same procedure is to be used in relation to Infractions.
• Moderators cannot offer board technical support. This is provided solely by Admin. If you have any technical issues with the forum or website then post your query in the Reporting Technical Issues section of the Forum or contact Admin.
• Any infraction will only be issued after consultation between at least two moderators in an effort to avoid unfair bias.

The Other Place (TOP)

• Somewhere where flaming is not only allowed but positively encouraged.
• These rules are specific to the other place and do not over ride the rules anywhere else on the forum
• Post here at your own risk those with sensitive natures are advised to stay away.
• Do not make racist comments, threaten/incite violence or post anything illegal.
• Spamming is not permitted
• Never take anything from TOP onto another board. Please keep all debate in this section totally separate. Do not continue arguments from here link to or mention posts in this board in any other of the main boards!
• Do not come to the moderators unless you think one of the above rules has been broken. Moderators reserve the right to intervene in exceptional circumstances.
• Moderators will sometimes post here solely in their capacity as members.
• Please censor swear words in thread titles as they appear on the main page. Avoiding the language filter (which cannot be turned off due to its universal nature) is fine within TOP posts.

Chatbox

• The Chatbox (CB) is where members can gather to chat about almost anything.
• The primary rule is that Chatbox is for small talk and serious debate should be kept to the threads.
• Rules regarding language and decency are as main rules.
• Text speak is allowed.
• Keep it light and friendly
• Do not discuss other members in a derogatory tone.
• Do not carry over disagreements from threads.

Common things for noobies to avoid.

• Please try to avoid posting very long and detailed views and opinions, especially if the subject matter is not of general interest. Experience has shown posts like this rarely get read or answered.
• It is common that people join the forum because they have a particular cause or subject close to their hearts please at least try to engage in discussions on other subjects, it will improve your experience of the forum
• Do not copy and paste large chunks of an article as an OP without commenting on it yourself.
• It is the nature of the beast that from time to time debate will become heated, please try and refrain from ad hominem attacks, always debate the point and try not to take debate personally.
