 Does the age of responsibility need to be changed? Some legal groups and children's charities have called for the age of criminal responsibility to be raised following a high profile court case. Five boys who killed a father of two by pelting him with sticks and stones have been sentenced to two years' detention. The group, aged between 12 and 14, attacked Ernest Norton as he played cricket with his son near his home in Kent. Campaigners, including the group Children's Law UK, claim that custody for young offenders doesn't work. The current age of responsibility in the UK is ten which is the lowest in Europe.
