So unproductive has conservatism been in producing a general conception of how a social order is maintained that its modern votaries, in trying to construct a theoretical foundation, invariably find themselves appealing almost exclusively to authors who regarded themselves as liberal. - F.A. Hayek

Hi Octopus, and welcome to the Politics Forum!
Before anything else can I make a couple of quick points about posting in the forum. If you haven't read the rules yet, please do; you can find them here. Knowing what’s appropriate and what isn’t can save everyone a great deal of hassle! You might also find the Guide to Good Posting useful. Also please respect other people’s views; they mightn’t be the same as yours but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re wrong, just different.
If you need help with anything at all, feel free to contact me, or one of the other moderators, via a personal message; details can be found here.
Enjoy
"High taxes don't redistribute wealth; they redistribute taxpayers" -- Arthur Laffer
On the basis of the last few decades. I think both Tory and Labour terms in office, apart from Mrs Thatcher"s three terms, with all due respect to them, have been a disaster. As for Lib Dems, good in local goverment, I will say. A bit wishy washy for goverment. The ones I"ve met mean well, but are just dreamers on main issues.

It seems to me that the UKIP don't haven any real policies apart from being anti-European, and simply because the Mainstream parties are failing, you could argue any third party is good. And at least from an international standpoint, I thought Blair's Government was quite good.
Well, if you think that good luck to you, and I respest your right to that view. However, your the only person I"ve been in contact with that is happy with the present set up. You only have to pick up a newspaper, look on the net or talk to people at work, or in the pub to get a very negative view of the present adminstation, and indeed the other 2 main parties. That"s why I think it"s time for a change in the form of UKIP. I know I am certainly not happy with teenagers ruling the streets, no proper Police, hospitals that can"t provide prober care for patients, no proper education for our kids-plus kids being taught it"s ok to live off the dole, on mine, and I expect, your taxes. By any standards that is not acceptable to most people, and I could go on to more subjects, but I have to get back to work, cheers, Paul. (My real name).
I thought that at first, but when I started looking into UKIP as a party I found that they were anything but a one issue party. Firm policies on law and order, immigration, taxation, transport, education, the NHS , even prepared talk about a free vote on capital punishment and proper discipline in our schools. Anybody, that knows anything about what is mainsteam views today would agree with policies like this. The other 3 main parties just stick to the same old policies: overseas aid we can"t afford, weak law and order, high taxes-taking from people who are living on the poverty line, petty rules, ie no smoking in pubs, or public places. The Lib Dems are reported as putting forward an old idea of rewarding joyriders, by giving them free go-karting lessons. A bit of a come down from a hoilday to Kenya as put forward by some elements of the other 2 parties, but still on the realms of Monty Python. My message to the big 3: "Get out there, and speak to some real people, like myself, and millons of others"-not just the closed world of Westminster". UKIP seem to have done this.
