    The Human Rights Act

As you may have noticed, I have been creating many threads containing within them information regarding to certain topics.

As such I believe posting a brief explanation of the Human Rights Act would provide as excellent information for your needs.

    Context and Background

The European Convention on Human Rights, signed in 1950, set up a Commission of Human Rights and a Court of Human Rights to enforce the Articles of the Convention; some of which are now incorporated into the Human Rights Act. This Act was passed in 1998 and came into effect in October of 2000.

The Act itself does not bring all of the rights or protocols of the Convention into British Law - though those areas left out can be added later if necessary. If acts of Parliament conflict with the Human Rights Act then the courts can make a 'declaration of incompatibility'. The Government and Parliament then have to consider whether the law needs changing and in the meantime the courts have to enforce the law as it stands.
