    Elections to be redone?

BBC NEWS | Politics | Warning over folded ballot papers

UKIP have sent out an email to all it's members and subscribers, and to the electoral commission stating that due to the folding of ballot papers.

As a result, UKIP have lost out on valuable votes, which may mean that the elections may have to be redone.

What is your view on this issue?

They probably deserve to have the eletions re-done, but unfortunately it almost certainly won't happen since the EU elections are centrally based. For once, I have some sympathy with UKIP, and I'm quite concerned that many of their voters may have voted for the BNP instead.

Why we they folding the ballot papers in such a (excuse my non-PC ness) retarded way? If thats how they were handed out then UKIP have a case. Although if you're stupid enough to a.) not ask when you can't see the party you planned on voting for or b.) not be able to unfold a peice of paper, then you're probably no great loss to the electorate anyway.

But Dougie is right, no chance of anything being done about it.

Apparently it was folded so you couldn't see anything else... in other words, it looks like that was it.

But you are right, they should have asked the officers there.

Our polling station had an unfolded one taped to the wall so you could see all candidates were there!
Seriously though how stupid would you have to be not to realise that the paper was folded, "hang on a minute this is a thick ballot paper and there's only half the candidates I was expecting and its in alphabetical order but UKIPs not at the top."

Yes I get that because I went and voted and my paper was also folded! That doesn't change the fact that 1) the folding was obvious because the paper was thick and 2) the candidates were listed alphabetically and therefore had I gone with the intention of voting for Zonologists for a free earth party I would have instinctively looked at the bottom and seen it folded over.

I don't have a problem with people who didn't realise due to the folding, but I find the people who didn't just go ask the supervising officers about it quite stupid.
