This high profile case came to an end today. Thanks to the testimony of the girl's mother, the father has been brought to justice. Her bravery at coming out against the wishes of her family and wider community should be commended.

This is an amazing case.

Like all groundbreaking cases it results is some danger for Tulays sister and mother.

This is a family who came to live in Britain, and because of the fathers refusal to adapt, the daughter was murdered.

All the women of this family lived under the men. In their country they had no right to anything...even life, except through the men. Tulay lived and realised that isn't so in England. A girl can live and work, vote and love as she pleases. This is a given right to an English citizen. How disgusting to us that her own father could settle in this country with it's rights and think he can pick and choose them to suit himself.

We can respect your religion, your dress and your customs. We can accept arranged marriage if it is freely agreed. We cannot and will not accept the forcing of our citizens to do something against their will and we will not accept their harm...and murder. There is nothing honorable in killing.

The mother and sister of Tulay Goren are English Citizens in danger. The little sister who died in a car crash told police that she was told to say goodbye for the last time to Tulay as was her brother....imagine that.

We have to support these brave ladies and others who need the support of us as fellow English citizens, but most of all need to know we are there as this is a scary world we will never encompass

In some respects, this is similar to how gangland criminals work. They have there own set of laws (or lack of them) and use intimidations and assaults and murders to control their patch and exert their power.
They are criminals of the worst kind, because not only are they acting illegally, they believe that their code or religion actually supports their actions.
They also believe that they should be immune from prosecution, in the same way that they are in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We are talking about our own citizens wanting to lead a life that we all do; and a teenager murdered for it. We can't make her alive, but we can take two women who need to be protected because they had the nerve to stand against their old country and in favour of THEIR law as English citizens.

Definitely, they should be protected and they will definitely need it. To my mind, even if they are/were not citizens, they deserve protection as helpless human beings with the basic right to life. The question is; is there a mechanisim in your country to provide such protection and it will have to be long term. Barry compared it to a criminal enterprise and I think it an apt comparision. Given that, in the US, for federal witnesses against organised crime, there is a witness protection program that completely relocates and provides new identities. Fortunately, the geographic size of the US helps in such an effort. Unfortunately, in a case like this it would not apply, but should.

The court system did the right thing by Tulay, now it's time for the government to step up and do the right thing by her Mother and Sister

This is a situation that all western nations should address as one for it can and does, happen anywhere. Some sort of unified message that such behaviour is not acceptable and will be dealt with harshly. There is a movement afoot in some parts of the US to raise so called 'honor killings' to a higher level of offense such as hate crimes. One thing is certain, it's a deliberate, premediated murder as opposed to a spontaneous crime of passion. It is cold and calculated. The first thing we should do is to elevate the offense to a federal (and it's equivalent in the UK) crime and come up with a more apt term for the crime as there is no honor in it.
