I thought I'd let everyone have the results of a quick trial I carried out a little while ago when I sent the following email to these 16 political parties, using the "Contact Us" link provided on their websites - Conservatives, Labour, LibDems, BNP, UKIP, UK First Party, New Party, Green Party, Liberal Party, Plaid Cymru, Scottish National Party, Popular Alliance, Socialist Alliance, Veritas, Democratic Independence Party, England First.
As of now, some 3 weeks after sending out the email - OK, not the world's greatest bit of literature but probably not untypical of many requests made - I've received replies from just 2 parties, the LibDems and the BNP, both of which were simply standardised "vote for us" type emails which didn't even begin to answer the questions I'd asked. Quite frankly I'm appalled at this degree of complacency, even more so with an election looming; you'd have thought that all the parties would be trying to gather in as much support as possible, but apparently notAnd they have the nerve to accuse people of being apathetic about politics when it comes to voting.......
Dear Sirs,
As a prospective member of your party I would be grateful if you could provide me with some additional information concerning your forthcoming election campaign, in particular what proposals you have concerning constitutional reform and the introduction of a more accountable form of government.
I would also be interested in receiving information on your policies in relation to both immigration and the UK's continued membership of the EU; would you for instance support the concept of referendums on both these matters of considerable public importance?
With regards,
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised 'for the good of its victims' may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us 'for our own good' will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. Lewis
Copies of the replies would be interesting,
BNP: Our policies towards immigration are pretty bloody obvious! No stinking rag head and moslems in our country! And the frogs and Jerry can shove it as well!
LibDems: What's a policy?
