    Warm welcome from Obama?

Am I deluding myself or has the American president been exceptionly warm to the new British government? Even talking about the special relationship again?

I can only imagine that the Americans seek a western partner who already supports their efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. I believe this bodes well for the future.

Well at least it isn't the political mis-match Blair/Bush was - a "new-age" tory like Cameron and a democrat should align pretty well politically

Cameron must be a proper British stereotype in America though, like Bush was over here.

This is probably just a formality though and I don't like us to get too cosy with a country which has so many fundamental flaws.

There is no special relationship, IMHO. Neither should there be one.
The UK and USA do not owe each other any favours at all.

I would say "remember that when Europe's economy implodes"; unfortunately, it's a dead-even race between Europe and the U.S. as to whose will tank first.

Oh Jesus, it must be great to live in a country with no 'fundamental flaws', whatever the **** that means.
I wonder why the things that should be so simple, so natural... like loving someone and letting them see into your heart... should require so much courage?

I don't see anything wrong in politician's friends playing a supporting role in political campaigns, but I would qualify that by saying as long as they don't go off trying to be the centre of attention themselves, thus diverting attention away from the main objective.

I don't think it is a question of owing each other favours. But we seem to be constantly arguing with/against the EU, and hence it is convenient for me to consider that in America we may have a friend on which we can rely for support without a political or economic edge?

Very good Major, although I would have said; when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

No hole, just a point I wasn't expecting to need to elaborate on.
