The hidden horror behind the Queen's speech

AS IF things weren’t bad enough already I read in today’s press of a development at the reading of the Queen’s Speech that made my blood run cold and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
You may have missed it amongst the acres of irrelevant analysis that all the other rags churned out. Only one paper had the wisdom and foresight to send their fashion editor along to cover the event and her revelations will shock a nation already reeling from a wave of bombshells. Samantha Cameron did not wear a hat to the event.
Apparently this shows that as a couple the Camerons are completely in touch with a nation being asked to tighten its belt, bite the bullet and swallow the bitter pill and we are expected to do all these things at the same time!
Mrs Clegg did not show solidarity of purpose amongst the coalition by this outward show of penury - she didn’t go at all, well I expect that she had a hairdresser’s appointment or so other pressing engagement.
This shock development throws a new light, a different perspective and a shattering insight into the nation’s macro and micro economic policy, our international relationships and our ability to prepare adequately for the forthcoming Olympic Games.
Forget the proposed new bills, ignore the forthcoming cuts in government expenditure and stop worrying if tax changes will affect you. Just concentrate on appearance of our leaders’ wives and everything else will fall into total insignificance.
I feel altogether reassured, rather than being absolutely terrified, after reading that report - strangely uplifting, or something.

Good for Samantha!! I've never been one for standing on ceremony myself, and like you I'm pleased to see that this view is extending into areas where it matters - and you're right, a tongue in cheek commentary or not, it does indeed show that the Camerons are in touch with the realities of life.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised 'for the good of its victims' may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us 'for our own good' will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. Lewis

I'm afraid I honestly find the wearing or not wearing of a hat by the Prime Minister's wife a bit irrelevant - as to reporting it in depth, well...

'Call me Dave' and Sam Cam are not, repeat not in touch with real life. He went to Eton, then Oxford, then worked briefly before going into politics. She is simply a rich little girl. I'm not one to say they're crap because they aren't poor - Dave's crap because of his policies, but your statement is pretty laughable regardless. Not sure how you could claim to be in touch with the realities of life either, Midas. I suppose Dave is 'down with it' if you're an old rich white man.
