The 'Queen's' Speech - Hopefully This Is Still Timely

Being in the U.S. and at the far end of a cable system we, locally, refer to as 'Country Cable', the only BBC I get is "MI5" and "The Vicarof Dibley", I missed the Queen's speech. Searching on line, when I emerged from a meds induced fog, brought up the Number10.gov site that listed proposed legislation. As I went down the list, I was brought up short by the following 'proposal' - Freedom (Great Repeal) Bill. WTF, they want to repeal freedom? Are Cameron, Glegg and crew giving back all power to the Crown? Laugh, cry, or run scared in case this insanity should spread to the good old "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave"? What to ****ing do? I know, click the link and see what this insanity is all about. So I did, clink the link that is, and my fears were allayed.

It appears that this 'insanity' is actually about 'sanity' for a change. The purpose of the bill being to

Roll back the State, reducing the weight of government imposition on citizens that has increased in recent years through legislation and centralised programmes.
Excellent idea and except for the extra letters someone threw in to "programs" sounds crystal clear. Excellent 'mission statement' in fact. Reading through the list of possible benefits, I honestly could find nothing to object to.

My only question now is, what bunch of fascists instituted that onerous list of impositions in the first place and what herd of sheep let them? Sounds more like a list of cold war Russian impositions.

We'll see and maybe this bit of 'insanity' will spread to the U.S. One can only hope.

I wonder why the things that should be so simple, so natural... like loving someone and letting them see into your heart... should require so much courage?

Mainly introduced by the Labour party, those lovers of democracy and freedom of the individual, and much of it was slipped into other bills going through parliament in the hope that the full and wider implications wouldn't be realised until too late. And they weren't...
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised 'for the good of its victims' may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us 'for our own good' will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. Lewis
