Interesting but inevitably theoretical post!Hello everyone, my name is Liam and I have a dream.
My dream is of a British politics run by the people. A party where the people (British voters) decide on what our great taxes go towards, deciding on the budgets and having a bit of fun in politics, open discussions between both sides, no shouting at each other to score political points but ordinary people spreading wisdom around our nation. Our values!
Well I had that dream on 21/05/2010 and I’m a man of action. So on that morning I woke up, had a shower, brushed my teeth, put on some clothes and got to work (with a cup of tea.) I will save you on details about myself because this isn't about me; it’s about our great British Nation.
I got out my pen and pages of paper and as I have done many days before I started to design a website. (I am a web designer - mostly artwork)
I am here to ask for Your Help!
I’m not planning a government reform but a party creation - I know there’s many small parties around the country but I believe this one could become a big player if we gain the right support and can advertise our site as if a game or a product where people can discuss and make changes to their opinions, voting and setting figures, suggesting new ideas and getting rid of old and unpopular laws.
Here is a list of site features and how I believe this great system could work.
Features:
Initial loading screen
- (black with central logo and a loader) - some fancy flash scripting.
Home Page
- Header with UKPP logo
- Register/login
- Background video (a old looking video with clips of the Britain we hate and the Britain we love, including military footage, Churchill, WW1, WW2, riots, police brutality, houses of parliament etc.)
- left menu (flash) (Home, Budget, Armed Forces, Jobs, Services, the law, Foreign policy, home affairs, your choice, suggestions, regions)
- Turn on/off ambient (top right)
- Turn on/off video (top right)
All pages (except home, initial loading screen, budget)
- Video change
- Right box appears (transparent black) with current policies (all vote able), comment able.
- New policy button (allows medium/high members to bring ideas of their own into the system by creating detailed ideas (must be kept up to date, editable)
- Thinks to do link (link to separate tab page with a list of things that the user is suggested to do)
Budget
-Slide able bars (Armed forces, Services, Health, etc.)
- change button (for people who decide to change their budget they have submitted.
- Party budget (the overall average of every user’s submitted budget)
Member system
- Every UK citizen over the age of 16 is accepted. - Name, postcode, age and email address required.
- No multi-accounts. (All user accounts must be linked to facebook)
- Members that have voted over 50 times/been a member for a month/have done all "things to do" will have access to create new policy suggestions as well as the ability to become a representative of UKPP)
- UKPP representatives that are highly active (on the site 5 times a week and have voted on over 100 policies) will be able to run for a region of the country, as a UKPP candidate in elections - we are also trying to sort out a system to get into councils.
I'm trying to think of things that we could include to keep people using the site (playing it like a game) but a game that has actual effects.
Discussions and voting
First week of an issue being created people will be given time to submit a easy application to run for second leader of the attack or opposition - the leader will be the person that submitted the idea, he/she will be able to stand down and allow the second leader to take over after a 48 hour period (where they can pass on any information related to the idea). The highest ranking member that applies for the position will be accepted after a 7 day automatic period. The person winning the application for second leader will be displayed and their rank included. The leaders of both sides will be able to manage their issue points and create a video/text based/audio based entry that will be displayed to the public. Once both sides have submitted their issue points then voting will be open and will close after 2 weeks if a 80% majority is gained, if this is not gained then the issue will be kept open for voting for another 2 weeks again and again until a 80% majority is met. Once accepted this will become the party policy. To scrap the policy 30% of site members must vote to scrap it.
I hope everyone understood that. If not ill cut it down into points.
I hope if we get this site up and running and it becomes a hit with the British public then we can gain a majority in the commons and that in effect will mean that every one of the party candidates must vote for our policies or they will be kicked out and replaced.
We also would welcome members of other political parties to join our site and vote for issues, however candidates and appointed ministers of other parties may not create issues or become second leaders of issues - they may be appointed as issue advisors though by the issue leader.
Hope people can give me some feedback for this idea.
I'm also looking for some web design help; I am good at the web art but not so good at coding or flash. This site will require skills in flash and HTML (my senior coder has agreed to help code the HTML but I’m afraid we will need some more dedicated members to this cause or it may take a few years.
The most significant reason it won't work is that use of the internet is not spread uniformly throughout the population.
