Is This A School Near You?

While being aware of the attitude of the Daily Mail to highlight and distort areas of concern, I suspect that some of what we read in this article will have been witnessed silently by most of us.

Unless our new government can get this situation under control the lawlessness will only grow in extent and frequency.

You're right to point out the sensationalising of this by the Daily Mail, yet as you say, this is all too common and is seemingly unchecked. I can't remember the last time I travelled on a bus, but I've seen similar behaviour outside schools on many occasions, and is their a teacher in sight - of course not, as far as the schools are concerned it seems their responsibility ends the moment that last end of class bell goes! About time that changed!

I am able to recall that the system when I was at school was that when the teacher came into the room we stopped talking and stood up until told to sit down by the same teacher. I grew used to the system and didn't find it onerous at all. We respected the older generation, epecially our teachers.

Were we wrong in having that system?
Have things improved now that we have a free for all?
I preferred it when you were expected o give up your seat to a lady! Now they resent your offering. Has equality helped women? I think not.

    End of rant.
However I believe that we could quite quickly go back to sanity if only our new government would really install standards of behaviour back in schools, support staff and particularly heads who want standards of discipline achieved daily in and out of school, so that children had respect for others rather than just themselves!

It was exactly the same when I was at school. I also recall that before school started in the morning and after school ended in the afternoon there were teachers on random 'patrol' in the immediate neighbourhood of the school to ensure that we all behaved ourselves and were orderly when waiting in queues for the various buses. Only the 6th formers were allowed off school premises during lunch time and even then there was always the odd teacher around between the school and the local town centre half a mile or so away. Any reports from local residents that there'd been any 'bad behaviour' among pupils from any of the local schools were always looked into and those responsible inevitably got punished, resulting in far, far better behaviour than we see today - and it's not been that many years in between.

Even when my own children were at school - they're 28 and coming up to 26 now - the discipline was strict, although I doubt that's a fair comparison with the then situation in state schools since they were at private schools where there's always been far more personal responsibility and respect for others instilled into the pupils.
