    Prime Minister to tackle compensation culture - and 'elf 'n safety

    Reported on BBC Breakfast show this morning.

    Both of these issues have cost us all a fortune as well as swelling the ranks of lawyers who take up such issues.
    Beyond that schools have been reluctant to take pupils on outdoor trips, right down to the recommendation that teachers should not apply sun tan creams to even very young children in case they don't apply it to every single square inch!

    This sounds like real progress here.

    I couldn't agree more!! A move that in my view is long overdue, and something which will hopefully start to encourage a bit more self-responsibility in people. Yes, there is always someone to blame when things go wrong for someone, but more often than not it's that person themselves, and they shouldn't rely on being able to blame someone else for their own carelessness or lack of foresight.

    "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised 'for the good of its victims' may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us 'for our own good' will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. Lewis

    I agree totally. Although I do wonder with the demise of many activities at state schools whether 'elf 'n safety' is used as an excuse not to organise or permit many events. As long as teachers are properly trained, and act in accordance with that training, the likely success of a compensation claim is very low.

    Independent public schools encourage a wide range of activities under the supervision and instruction of trained teachers or qualified professionals, without 'elf 'n safety' becoming an issue, whilst broadening the pupils education and experience into the process. There isn't a season when a boy doesn't break something playing rugby but it is accepted as a risk of playing the game, and no blame attaches to the coaches and no 'compensation claim' is dreamed of.

    Perhaps when the justice system recognises, through government action, that such things as accidents do occur, and that blame can not always be attached them, and compensation should rarely be awarded then we may see teachers and police officers, among others, putting themselves out a bit more.

    The compensation culture was put in place by the Bilderbergers to provide jobs for their alumni mates and as another way of filtering money to wealthy people from the taxpayers. When a politition does something think;
    How are they going to benefit directly?
    How are their business interests going to benefit?
    Have they been promised a consultancy job by a firm who will benefit? ( as blair was with goldman sachs)
    How will their friends or members of their family benefit? (many of these super rich people put money in "trust funds for their family to hide their money as well as ofcourse the old fashioned swiss bank accout) Tony has one of those as well or so Im told.
    Using this tariff you can more often than not see why they are doing it.

    I hope the coalition takes action to promote the very society you suggest in your posting Major Sinic.
