Should half the Shadow Cabinet be women?

Recently, Ed Miliband, who is running in the Labour Leadership campaign, came out and supported Harriet Harman's proposal to make sure that half the Shadow Cabinet are women. But is it right or fair?

The short answer is No! I want the best to be selected, if that means they are all women then so be it.

Arbitrary statements like this just shows how many of the Labour party are totally unsuitable for government.

What a ridiculous notion, it's neither right nor fair. I do not want my country run by a cabinet who is chosen based on what the've got between their legs, I want one that's chosen based on what's between their ears.

Any job should be allocated on a basis of who is best for the job regardless of their sex, creed or colour.

Another example of how out of touch Ed Milliband is: Harriet Harman has had a miserable time trying to string a sensible sentence together in Parliament to respond to the coalition initiatives. There have been a few gaffs by the coalition which she really should have made hay on, but the opportunity sailed by!

Thank goodness Harriet Harman isn't in government anymore........
By her ridiculous logic, should a proportion of the cabinet be unemployed? Deaf? Blind? Gay? Lesbian? Where should the line be drawn with this kind of nonsense?
Merit is the best and only way in which candidates should be selected, their gender, race, disability or lack of it, sexual orientation etc should be of no consiquence.
