Tony Blair supports Coalition on Economy

In an excerpt I have just watched on BBC Breakfast programme, a BBC reporter explains his surprise to hear Tony Blair agreeing with the route taken by the present coalition in measures to correct the economic deficit! Wo Ho, what a big surprise!

No wonder Labour lost the last election when their previous leader says that Gordon Brown got it wrong on dealing with the economy. There will be more revelations on how the two did not get on while in government together in the programme featured below!

The full interview by Andrew Marr on Tony Blair can be seen on BBC2 at 7pm this evening.

However at the present rate of leaks we should have heard it all before then!

Added to that there's this revelation in today's Daily Mail:
"Tony Blair brands Gordon Brown a ‘disaster’ as prime minister in his memoirs – and reveals he repeatedly considered firing him as chancellor.

Mr Blair delivers a withering verdict on his successor as a ‘maddening’ man with ‘zero emotional intelligence’, who lost a winnable election because he abandoned New Labour."
The only question I'd have is "Why the hell didn't you fire him then, and make sure he was kept far enough away from the cabinet so he could never challenge you as PM and lead the country to such a disaster".

The only answer I can offer to that is that Gordon Brown was nearer old Labour supporters and would have been a formidable opponent causing havoc if consigned to opposition from within. I believe a good political decision.

Perhaps at the time - as Tony Blair does also say, "Chancellor was less dangerous kept on the inside" - but of course history now tells us a different story!

I doubt Blair cares, he had his run of power and now reaps the generous rewards being a multi-millionaire. I think he played the game very well (for himself obviously).

It seems the Telegraph is forecasting Labour could self-destruct after the book!

Did anyone see the interview last night? Guardian review. The bit that got up my nose was the comment that he'd support Labour even if Dianne won nthe leadership. Is there anything worse than a has been with an opinion?

What a great leep of genius that statement is, any idiot knows that you can't continue to borrow beyond your means with no plans to make cutbacks to pay it back.

So Tony Blair supports the coalition on the economy?Scarcely surprising is it!He always was a Tory at heart, something many of us recognised years ago.He is the primary reason I stopped voting Labour.

He would have made a better Tory than a Labour MP, imo.
