United Kingdom Politics Having secured a third term, we will fulfil our promise to renew our country and take Britain forward to a better future not back to a failed Tory past. Our continuing success depends on our continuing to pursue a new Labour agenda as a modern progressive party. We will focus on three crucial areas: the economy, modernising public services, tackling crime and asylum; building on what we have achieved to make Britain better since coming to office in 1997

General Election 2009 / 2010 : The Notional Starting Points

Following publication on electoralcalculus.co.uk, I have spent the last few weeks number crunching the similarities between the new seats for the next general election (650 vs 646) and the implications these new seats will have on each of the parties in the UK. The general trend suggests that like every set of boundary changes since 1970, it is the Conservatives who have done best out of them with the Labour Party faring worst.

General Election 2005 Actual Results
Labour 356 seats
Conservatives 198 seats
Liberal Democrats 62 seats
Others (Nationalists, Independents, Northern Ireland) 30 seats
Labour majority of 66

General Election 2005 Notional Results
Labour 348 seats (-8)
Conservatives 213 seats (+15)
Liberal Democrats 60 seats (-2)
Others (Nationalists, Independents, Northern Ireland) 29 seats (-1)
Labour majority of 46
