Gordon Brown and Barack Obama exchanged gifts recently. Brown got Obama a penholder crafted out the sister ship that supplied the timber for the Oval Office desk (he's so cool), a first edition biography of Churchill (not the dog) and a framed picture of one of our boats. That Gordon, he loves to splash the cash.
Obama got Gordon 25 DVDs, more accurately the AFI's top 25 films as compiled by its members. Classics like The Godfather, Citizen Kane, 2001, etc. This has been reported by the Mail as a snub and systematic of a crisis point in the special (read: retarded) relationship between the two countries. Really? Could it not just be an attempt to cut through some of the ridiculous pomp associated with these occasions? But what do I know? Then again, I know which set of gifts I'd prefer, after all, who needs a penholder, as leader of the free world I'm sure he could get an intern to hold a pen for him, look how Clinton got Monica to hold a cigar!
