| Language and the American People It is clear that todays society is in a bad way. The people of America are at an all time low. The majority is lacking in intellect and devoid of moral responsibility. I believe this to be a result of two causes in particular.
a. The children of tomorrow are being raised in a consumer based society.
b. Public education has not advanced significantly sense its creation.
a. Why does Japan flourish while the U.S. suffers? The answer is a clouded one I am sure, but I believe it is do to a lack of moral responsibility on our part. The children of tomorrow will not and are not taught to take control of their future. They have been raised in a society that only knows consumption and because of this, they can only teach consumption. It is in this way that the future of America will be propelled toward failure. I have more to say, but i would rather be given some opinion in response to my post.
b. Public education... Out of all the superpowers in the world, America is the most lacking of all in the realm of education. Although, it is not untrue that our colleges have prestige, but I am afraid that our children's schools fall short in the global realm of the superpowers. This is a topic that I would like to see further discussion on in the Senate.
Language: What does language have to do with all of this? Well, it is that our thoughts are in our language and it is when this language is lacking that our thoughts also lack. In a society of consumers our vocabulary is also of consumption and therefore our thoughts are hindered by this vocabulary wall. George Orwell's "Politics and the English Language" addresses this concept in much better breathe. Please respond. |
