| Illegal immigration, a practical solution The idiot author of the thread about digging a freaking canal between the US and Mexico should be ignored. He missed the point of the immigration debate. If we suddenly kicked all illegal immigrants out of the country and made it impossible for any others to enter then who can we expect to labor in our fields feeding the american workforce? I'm sure very few americans would be willing to leave their "white-collar" lifestyles. the biggest issue is striking a very delicate balance, as is the case in most modern social issues. i personally believe that we haven't given these latin-americans enough credit. But an insecure southern border is both unacceptable and dangerous. I can't understand what is taking politicians in Washington so long to create an effective immigration law. I'll throw out a simple plan, please let me know what you think. There should be a limit on visas issued, the exact number issued per year is a thing for the politicians to debate about. The life of the visa should range between 1 year and 5 years, the amount issued of each length becoming pregressively lower as the life extends, so that there are X amount of 5 year visas and 5X amount of 1 year visas, follow? Illegal immmigrants currently in the country have the first pick on visas. An issued visa would become void if the worker fails to take in a required monthy income amount. Companies would be strictly punished for hiring non-visa labor, discouraging workers without visas from entering the country. Also, a special (but small) tax could be levied on those companies that hire visa labor in order to balance the strain on the healthcare and welfare systems, as well as border security, visa processing, and immigration officers. I have thought about many more details for this plan, bu i feel that an endless rant would be both boring and of no benefit. Again, please leave feedback And you should also check out some of my other threads, including "The God I believe in never worked on a campaign trail" Abortion vs. Religion |
